Pastor Thomas Hughie Baxter Jr., was taken into custody on kidnapping and assault warrantsSHAWNEE ā€” A Pottawatomie County pastor was awaiting extradition to Florida after being arrested on several outstanding warrants, the sheriff's department said Thursday.

Thomas Hughie Baxter Jr., 35, of Shawnee, was taken into custody Monday on kidnapping and assault warrants, according to a Pottawatomie County sheriff's spokesman.

Doug Tobin, Pasco County (Fla.) sheriff's spokesman, said authorities were working to extradite Baxter to Florida.

Baxter spent 10 years in a Florida prison and was released in May 2010, according to the Florida Department of Corrections website. He was incarcerated on charges including kidnapping, weapon and assault violations, and impersonating a law enforcement officer, records show.

Published reports say Baxter is the pastor of the Corner Stone of Jesus Christ Church in Shawnee.

He told a Springfield, Mo., television crew that he has been collecting money and donations for tornado victims.

ā€œI've been using my truck cab as my office and I've had FEMA come knocking on my door asking me to head up as much of the donation process as I can,ā€ Baxter said.
