LOUISIANA: "Just for Jesus" pastor accused in drug case

Pastor James P. Bertrand Jr. (Source: Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office)CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) - The pastor known for local "Just for Jesus" rallies is facing charges in a drug case.

According to a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, [pastor] James P. Bertrand Jr. has been charged with possession of CDS II (crack cocaine) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Authorities said Bertrand was arrested after an alleged narcotics transaction outside a gas station on Country Club Road in Lake Charles.

Authorities said the incident reportedly happened around 3 a.m. Monday.

Authorities said deputies spotted a smoking device on Bertrand, in his back pocket.

Investigators said Bertrand tried to throw away a clear, plastic bag containing an off-white substance and tried to conceal the suspected crack cocaine in his mouth.

Authorities said Bertrand was released on $8,500 bond, set by Judge David Ritchie.
